Manix and his Technicolor Sneezes
One of my favorite things to use for my engravings is mica powder or pigment powders. When I use them, they go EVERYWHERE it is the pollen of the art world. You place it (I use either a short bristle paint brush or a eye-shadow type brush thing) and seconds later, you have to breath… Now you’re looking at a room that looks like a blizzard went through a drag show. Everywhere you look, there is color, sparkle, and luster floating around. It is absolutely fabulous.
Now, if you know me, I am a deep breather when I am focused on something… Like when I am making sure my graphite gray isn’t mixing with my ash gray, or keeping this square mm from contaminating that spot which I just spent 20 minutes going over with 8 layers of the paint market and kept the edge neat and crisp with my face as close to the piece as possible. These powders, they aren’t glued down typically as I put them right onto the engraved sections. So, eventually I am sneezing rainbows. Should I wear a mask, probably… I at least wear a mask when I am dealing with engraving acrylic or spraying paint… but, when dealing with the powder, I need to be able to blow the excess away… you know… to create those fabulous clouds.
Pieces I have worked on this week:
This week I have worked on some more fairy, mushroom items. Designed over the course of the week with engraving in mind, since it is easier to create the design for engraving first versus trying to adapt a piece to be engraved. I actually experimented this week with reverse engraving. Up until this point, I typically have the design engraved and the rest the raw material I have engraved on.

Doing the reverse engraving thing really helps add details and the ability to color in the different items with less bleed is nice as well.
Now speaking about that piece right there ^^^ LOOK AT THOSE FIDDLEHEADS! I am so proud of that design. I loved making it so much, it’s the little things… That’s not hand drawn, that is designed… If you know what that means, congrats. I just love how it came out.

The difference between the “regular” style of engraving vs the reversed. I like them both. I can focus on different areas just enough to change the whole look…. Here is the other design I recently did.

Of course, these 4 pieces will be available for sale. I will be at the Benefit for Ryan in Claremont this Saturday 20 June 2026 from 9-3. Come find me and go oooo and aaaa about some of my pieces, buy some stickers or other things.
