As someone who is trying to make it in the world of graphic design who also wants to support all the small businesses… It AB-SO-LUTELY kills me to walk into one of my favorite businesses and see it overflowing with AI generated posters, logos and promotional material. Honestly, breaks my heart. Especially when blown up to pixel exposing sizes.
I’d rather see ill-gotten clipart with the checkerboard because someone made the effort to create a design without knowing how to properly remove the alpha layer. We all know that you are a specific type of business, we are not expecting you to be an expert in graphic design. It’s OK if you use clipart or something off the shelf, markers and tape. We know you tried.
But, the line has to be drawn (literally) when you prompt and print. Gen-AI is not regulated properly and is filled with ethical and legal issues that I will not go into right here… Just imaging came onto your field, took a front-end loader and scooped up pieces of your crop and then laid it down it in their own field while calling it their own. In the process damaging your irrigation system and polluting your soil. Now you have a hole where your crop was, the competitor is selling your hard work and your land may be damaged to the point where nothing will grow in that area again… And there is nothing you can do about it.
I am not a farmer, if I want produce, I will purchase them. If I want to grow my own, I will purchase the seeds from you. If what I plant won’t grow, I accept that I am not a farmer, but that won’t keep me from trying next year.
